This beautiful red sandstone building was designed by Denver's famous architect, Frank E. Edbrooke, who also designed the Brown Palace Hotel, the City and County Building of Denver and the final architect for the Colorado State Capitol. The historical significance is both engineering and architectural with the period of significance from 1875 to 1899 (although the building is still fully utilized today). The Romanesque-style building features fine stone carving and graceful arches. The function was originally of a social club, the Masonic Order of Denver. The structure has always had merchants on the lower floors, providing the popular goods of the day. The building is now part of Denver's 16th Street Mall, a mile long pedestrian mall that anchors lower Denver with the civic area.
