Monument paid for by Henry Rosenberg to honor the heroes of the Texas Revolution. The monument was unveiled April 21, 1900. The monument is surmounted with a statue of 22-foot bronze figure of Victory by Louis Amateis looking to the North one hand on hilt of a battle sword, other extends crown of laurel. The statue stands stands on four granite columns and at base of columns are figures of Defiance (east side) and Peace (west side). On four sides of the base are bronze panels in bas-relief depicting "The Surrender of Santa Anna," "The Siege of the Alamo," "The Massacre of Goliad," and "The Battle of San Jacinto".
Galveston businessman and generous philanthropist Henry Rosenberg gave $50,000 for monument in "Memory of the heroes of the Texas Revolution of 1836." His wish carried out by executor, Major A.J. Walker and the dedication ceremonies on April 21, 1900, were attended by thousands. It is the major monument in the city, and represents the only monumental example of Beaux Arts sculpture from this period in the state.
