As a part of the 150 kilometre long rails-to-trails route, the Otago Central Rail Trail crosses the 45th parallel twice. At this point there is a sign recognizing the location as being the halfway point between the equator and the South Pole.

Please note: Even though this location is close to SH 85 it is private property between the road and the Otago Central Rail Trail. To legally access this point you have to begin walking or cycling from either Wedderburn (S 45.03016, E 170.01085) or at Reefs Road (S 44.99302, E 169.94493).
