The Marco Polo had welcomed travelers since the late 50s. The advent of I-5 had hurt business, and it was all downhill from there. At one point it was purchased by the Motel 6 chain, but they were unable to reverse the fortunes. It had finally gone out of business in 2008 after being sold a couple more times. The buildings were becoming dangerous, and were demolished in 2009. The land is still for sale.
