Pattaya City is in fact a city. Officially, it is a special administrative unit within the district of Banglamung. It has its own mayor and administration. This is in recognition of the importance of the city as a tourist destination. Pattaya lies ~160kms south east of Bangkok.
One of the major tourist destinations in Pattaya is "Big Buddha Hill"—to use the vernacular. There are a number of sites here (and waymarks). One of these sites is the 'official' city lookout point. It is a spectacular spot, both during the day and night. Worth a look.
