This sign is part of a small outdoor display behind the detop. There is a second plaque about the building being a Registered National Historic Place.
Text of Sign: Built in 1881 across the Touchet River by the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Co. The Union Pacific Railway bought the railroad in 1889. It moved the depot to its present site on roller logs which were pulled by horse and winch. The stationmaster lived on the second floor.
Depot and grounds were donated to the Dayton Historical Depot Society, Inc., in 1975 by the Union Pacific Railroad Co.
Restoration of this depot is Dedicated to The Pioneers of Columbaia County.
