In Natick, in the section known as South Natick, there is a solar photo-voltaic system installed on an old barn that supplies an organic farm with about 40% of its electrical needs.
The system, installed in January, 2008, by the Pioneer Valley Photo-Voltaics, or (PV)2 cooperative. The system is rated at 10 kw.
On the east side of the barn are the DC-AC inverters and other parts of the system. There are a few signs that explain how the system works.
The Natick Community Organic Farm is a working farm run by a board, members and volunteers. The farm entrance is located off the entrance to the Memorial Elementary School, which is off Eliot Street (Route 16). It is often open to the public, and there are special events that are open to the public, such as Maple Magic Days, which is when I encountered the system. The web site for the farm is here:
