Located in eastern Day County, South Dakota, Waubay has a population of 585 as of July 2008, a decrease of about 12% in population from the 2000 census.

German, Norwegian, Polish, Irish, French and Swedish immigrants settled the area and the town was incorporated on February 18, 1895.

Located along the south shore of Blue Dog Lake, this community is in the center of some of the best hunting and fishing in the Upper Midwest.

The bell was retired a number of years ago when the old fire hall became so delapitated that a new building was needed. Rather than destroy the bell, it was decided to put it on display in front of the new fire hall.

There is not inscription on the bell, and it rests on a wooden structure near the front office door.
