A bench mark from the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey (USCGS) located at Fort Foster on Gerrish Island in Kittery, Maine. The disk is set horizontal into a concrete block on the east side of a paved road and 100 feet north of the wharf.

This bench mark from the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey (USCGS) is located at Fort Foster on Gerrish Island in Kittery, Maine. The disk is set horizontal into a concrete block, leveled with the ground, on the east side of a paved road and 100 feet north of the wharf of Fort Foster. The concrete block is part of a little concrete ramp. An old rusty sign post is standing next to this ramp.
The station was found in a good condition, it has a circle with a line in the middle and its stamping is
NO.1 1948. The station is
not listed in the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) database.
To reach the station from Kittery, Maine drive south on route 103 until the street name changes to Tenney Hill Rd. After a half mile take a right onto Gerrish Island Ln, drive over the bridge and take another right onto Pocahontas Rd. Drive to the end of Pocahontas Rd until you reach the gate of Fort Foster. During the winter time the gate is closed but pedestrian/foot traffic is allowed from sunrise to sunset. If the gate is open you have to pay a little fee at a small toll booth at the gate.
