On the plaque at the garden:

This addition to Queens Park Gardens was made possible by a generous bequest from Jessie Watson Calder of Winton. Formerly the site of the Old Municipal Nursery, The Jessie Calder Garden covers an area of approximately 2.5 hectares. Construction of the garden commenced in the summer of 1986/87 and continued intermittently until the end of 1989, when work was virtually completed. Because of Jessie Calder's love of old fashioned flowers, the garden has been given an old fashioned theme, with the Garden of Old Shrub Roses forming the central feature.
