In Cambridge, literally in the very center of the busy commercial district of Harvard Square and on the edge of Harvard University, is a brick plaza that is between the lanes of Massachusetts Avenue. On this plaza is a small tree protected by a rim of granite a couple feet high. On one side is an inscription with a butterfly at the top and the following text:
"In memory of MARLENE METHELIS
1977-1993
Love
MOM, DAD, PAMELA"
A search on the Internet did not reveal much. However, what was revealed through a short geneological record and a school web site was that a Marlene Methelis did live in Broward County, Florida, who lived during those years. There is a scholarship in her name, offered in Broward County schools, for a student with an interest in art. I could not find a reference that provides the link between Florida and Massachusetts.
Anybody know?
