Surat Thani is found 650kms south of Bangkok. It is the provincial capital, a medium sized town (~130,000), but has no significant tourist attractions of its own, while being surrounded by major tourist attractions elsewhere in the province. This means that most tourists pass through the town on their way to national parks, islands or other more appealing locales.
Having said that, Surat does have a number of Buddhist Wat's worthy of mention. One of these is Wat Klang Mai. I found this Wat at night. It is a new Wat, with a bright, white colour, and it is illuminated at night. Surrounding the Wat is a new school of the same name.
