The Burton Public Library was started in 1910 with a donation of 567 books by the Civic Improvement Society, a local women's group. The library became free in 1912. The library moved through a number of locations until 1937 when it moved into its current home at a former high school. The library has been enlarged and re-modeled over the years with the last wing expanded in 1983.
The library holds very popular book sales throughout the year. It is a stopping point by many of the visitors of this historical town when they stop for events at the nearby county fairgrounds and the restored Century Village.
