Marker Text:
Stephen Foster's title for the well-known song is said to have been taken from nearby Camptown. Foster's residence at Towanda and Athens may have created the association.
It is unsure if Steven Foster wrote this song about the nearby town or a tent city, meaning camptown. He did live in the area for a year. 1840-41 while he atttended Athen's Academy.
Take note, was that a pun, the sign is not missing like the state site says it is!
So take a pic of you and the sign. Do da do da!
