Old Castle Stairs lead from the bailey of Prague Castle, specifically from the eastern Castle gate in an area called the Opyš to the Klárov in Lesser Town. Stairs, approximately 150 m long, were built in the 16th century. The current form comprising 121 stone steps from the years 1835-1837, when they were reconstructed. Name "Old Castle Stairs" is officially used since 1829 and is probably derived from the old way, which in the 9th century led parallely to the Prague Castle. Stairs, lined on both sides by the walls, belong among one of the most magical places in Prague. Now serves mainly to tourists as one of the best access routes to the Castle.
