George Fox preached in local church and in the Market Place in 1652 1660 and 1664. This brought conflict with the laws of the time and he was imprisoned in the nearby Lancaster Castle. A prison still in use today. He would have been crossing Morecambe Bay sands just north of here on his way to Swarthmoor Hall.
