This is the 2nd monument in the "Coasting the Base Line" project. It tells the story of surveyers and their roll in the mapping out of the state and the nation.

Baseline Road (or 8 Mile Rd.) is the East West survey anchor.
This Base Line Monument is the second of a Michigan statewide series of sculptures that incorporate art with local history. The second installation took place in July 2005 in Founder’s Park for Farmington and Farmington Hills. This second in the series has information pertinent to the communities of Farmington and Farmington Hills.

This Base Line Monument is also a true work of art created by local artist David Barr.
