The marker narrative reads:
Chester Heritage Park
In 1895 the original Chester Post Office was located 1 mile north and 2 1/2 east of here. It was moved in 1904, a grave site with this sign told the story. "Chester's dead and laid to rest. If you want your mail, go 2 miles west." About 1927, the Chester Post Office was moved to the present location, and this time the sign read "By word of mouth pick up your mail 1 mile south." Chester was also known as Cottonwood corners and tailholt. The land for this park was donated by the Fred and Esther Strecker Family. The Chester Historical Society would like to dedicate this park, known as Chester Heritage Park, to the families who came here and survived through good times and bad.
