The Book Discovering Stained Glass in Detroit (
visit link) tells us:
"In keeping with the cathederal image it (the Guardian Building) has two large stained glass windows in the North elevator lobbies. These windows almost identical in design were recently discovered when Michigan Consolodated Gas in it's careful restoration of the building, removed two dropped ceilings put there by a former tenant, bringing to light two windows that had been totally obscured. A monumental stylized figure dominates each window, one symbolizing security (to serve as a guard), and the other fidelity (to reassure the public of loyalty constancy and truth). In keeping with the Aztec motif of the building, the figures are clothed in American Indian Feathered cloaks, arms upraised, and each holds a diamond shaped shieldon which is inscribed either security or fidelity. The windows are rolled glass in intense blue green and gold colors with painting limited to face hands and feet. A surrounding buildings partially obscure the light newly designed arificial lighting aids in dramatic presentation of these windows."
