George Bowman was born in Germany on September 20, 1772 and landed in New York in 1802. The Bowman House was built in 1828. John Bowman had good relations with the nearby Cherokee's in the Indian town of Coytee (see my cache GC1H29A which is very near where Coytee was located). They assisted him in farming and he in turn taught them to make clothing and construct wells and cisterns. Bowman was the first white man to preach the Indians of the settlement. The house is on the National Register of Historic Places.
