Waihi Station was completed on 3rd October 1905 in time for the offical opening of the line between Paeroa and Waihi on November 1905. The total cost of the building was $5200. ( 1764 pounds ) The first station master was Mr W J Hessell. Between 1905 and 1925 Waihi Station was the railhead until the line was extended to Tauranga The line and station was closed in 1978. The Goldfield Rialway Incorporated operates the line between Waihi and Waikino as a Tourist attraction.
