Made in 1891, the fountain served as an oasis for parched horses and dogs of Lakewood's elite to drink from. Reported to cost at least $1,000, this certainly was an ornate water trough. There are two water basins on opposing sides near the bottom. The fountain is elaboratley decorated with curved peaks, with fish-like heads protruding from under them. An acorn urn adorns the top of a podium section decorated with classical ornamentation including, acanthus, cartouche, and a Pompeian wave.

When construction of the Post Office began in 1938, the fountain was moved to Campbell Park on Main Street, across from the Catholic Church and used as decoration. During this time the lamps were removed.

When downtown was remodeled 1981, the fountain was moved once again, this time to the northeast corner of Clifton and Main, again by the Post Office, about a hundred feet south of it's original location.
