Long Description:Follow Angeles Crest Highway for 23 miles from its beginning at the
210 Freeway in La Canada to Charlton Flat. Turn onto Charlton Flat
picnic area road and go right at the junction a short distance from
the highway. Continue down through Charlton Flat to the area near
the Forest Service pump house and across from Wolf Tree Nature
Trail.
A National Forest Adventure Pass is required to be displayed on
your vehicle while it is parked in this area.
Charlton Flats is a picnic grounds located to northeast face of
Vetter Mountain. Charlton Flats has been closed on and off for
several years due to erosion problems, overuse, and recent bark
beetle tree thining operations.
The original name of the area was Pine Flat when it was renamed
to Charlton Flat in honor of the"new" forest service's first Forest
Supervisor, Mr. R.H. Charlton. Mr. Charlton served as the Angeles
National Forest Supervisor from 1905-1925 (20 years).
