PROSPECT PARK(1997)
BY PAUL LIVINGSTONE, BOWMANVILLE, ONTARIO
Prospect Park was an amusement and recreation park around the
turn of the century, providing a popular meeting place for
picnics, band concerts, sports and amusements. Prospect Park
was purchased in 1915 by R. S. (Sam) McLaughlin, the founder
of General Motors of Canada. The house featured in the mural
was torn down to make way for the McLaughlin home, known as
Parkwood, which remains today as a National Historic Site.
Text of the mural:
We held our annual family picnic here at Prospect Park until
Mr Edmondson sold it to Mr McLaughlin to build Parkwood.
