Paul Ullrich was born 1845 in Hesse Cassel and came to America in 1860. He married Matilda Miller. His first career was as a cattle driver until 1870 when he opened a dry goods business. The business grew and he sold it out to open a small private bank, Ullrich & Crooker, in 1881. In 1893 Ullrich went public with his new Ullrich Savings Bank. Paul Ullrich Sr. died in 1897 at which time Paul J. Ullrich took over the bank and has the smaller Obelisk at this site.
