The Cordillera Central (Central Mountain range) of Costa Rica is so rugged it is nearly impenetrable, and is the location of the Parque Nacional Braulio Carrillo (National Park).

Covering 108,970 acres (44,100 ha), this impressive rainforest is located near 2 volcanos: Volcan Barva (9,534 ft) and Volcan Cacho Negro (7,053 ft), and receives nearly constant rainfall, with an average of 10 ft per year. Lush, wild vegetation and cloudforest, rugged hiking trails, and bountiful wildlife and birds and a located a 40 minute drive from San Jose make this park a constant draw for visitors and tourists.
