The following information was obtained from Cobblestone Quest by Rich and Sue Freeman:

The front was built with small red sandstones, water rounded cobbles set at an angle, five courses per quoin. The two sides used multi-colored cobbles, set four courses per quoin. The rear wall is made of rougher field cobbles set three courses per quoin. Notice the finely chisled limestone quoins, lintels and water table. The stone quoins around the front door are unusual.

The book lists the architects as John Skinner and Stephen Trumbull of Wayne County. Most masons are unknown

This is one of 3 cobblestone churchs built in Ontario County, the only one still used as a church. One was destroyed and the other is a private residence.

The Phelps Baptist Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
