The Wilderness Center is a nonprofit, self-funding institution dedicated to nature education, wildlife conservation, natural history research, and community service. It is not part of any governmental agency. The center encompasses 619 acres of forest, meadow, marsh, and restored prairie. It is located in the southwest corner of Stark County adjacent to Wayne, Holmes and Tuscarawas Counties near Wilmot. Many of the adjacent farms are Amish owned.
This farm implement is found not far off the Pioneer Path trail near an old sandstone barn foundation. There is nothing that gives any detailed history other than this was part of the Charlie Sigrist estate. Five hikers studied this implement and theorized that it may be a corn planter. It has many gears, chains and levers. We surmised that the big chain, that has small cups periodically placed, carried the seed that was planted. There are also tines at one end.
