Christopher Columbus
I remember when this used to stand in Grand Circus Park. Appropriately this bust of Christopher Columbus is facing south towards the Detroit River.
Information from the SIRIS web site;
Description:
Larger than life-size bust of Christopher Columbus mounted on a base adorned with cornices and a prow and stern of a boat.
Remarks:
The sculpture project was an initiative begun by Vincenzo Giuliano, editor of Detroit's Italian Tribune of America, to honor Columbus on the 400th anniversary of his death. When the sculpture was relocated in 1987, a bronze plaque that had been stolen was replaced, and a second plaque was added to the base.
