This memorial is located in the back of the DeSoto Cemetery. DeSoto is a small town 20 miles west of the major metropolis of Kansas City, and this memorial is in a peaceful corner of DeSoto.
The Memorial itself consists of a brass plaque on a black marble tablet. The plaque and tablet are supported on a base of concrete with a metal wreath placed on it, which gives an appearance of an "altar". The text of the plaque reads:
* To our Hero Dead in World War II *
1941 - 1945
(picture of star, wreath, and ribbon)
The people of De Soto
pays homage to the memory
of these Valiants who gave the last
full measure of devotion to their Country
Lawrence W. Cauldwell * Wm. G. Land
Earl H. Turner * G. Eugene Jordan
Lester W. Cotner * Merle G. Couch
Carl Odom * Leonard L. Oshel
Chas. R. Tripkos * Ford Middleston
Leonard Grazier * H. M. "Bill" Linden
Alfred Gordon * V. Eugene Diehl
Robert Kramsch * Berle O. Baker
The memorial also contains 3 flags - the U.S., the Kansas state, and the V.F.W. . The U.S. Flag is lighted for 24-hour display.
