The Argentum Art-O-Mat, recently moved to the Purple Cow Store in Wakefield, RI has been on a tour of stores since the original store, Argentum, was closed.

In the community of Wakefield, Rhode Island in remote South County, there is an Art-O-Mat machine that has been moved about several stores in downtown Wakefield.
The machine was originally in a store called Argentum Designs, which was a jewelry store. The store was closed, but it was agreed that the machine would tour around stores in South County. The next store it lived in was "All that Matters", a yoga studio. Two months ago, it moved to Myopic Books down the street, which is where I found it on January 9, 2010.
Myopic Books is located at 343A Main Street, Wakefield, RI. It is a nice store for used and rare books. The machine is located at the front of the store, by the large display windows. The machine has a brushed rusty color along the sides, and a dark red color in the front, with a yellow-lit "Art-O-Mat" sign. There is a large mirror on the upper part of the machine. Like other Art-O-Mats, there is the usual selection of art and pull-knobs. The tokens are $5.35 to purchase.
We talked with the store keeper and learned that this Myopic Books location was closing. The contents of this store and the Art-O-Mat were being combined with the store in Providence at Wayland Square, 5 South Angell Street. The move will be completed by February 1, 2010. So, I'm glad that we were able to stop when we did - otherwise, it might have been quite an adventure to relocate it!

Finally was able to check up on the new location, and, rather in a round-about way, I found the Providence location of Myopic Books, and the Art-O-Mat, prominently displayed in the store window. I took coordinates, bought a token, and purchased a new piece of art. That now makes two Art-O-Mats in Providence! The Myopic Books store in Providence is on S Angell Street, near the intersection of S Angell Street, Angell Street and Wayland Avenue.

I forget how I learned that the Art-O-Mat was again on the move, this time, back to Wakefield. It was likely when I was searching on the Art-O-Mat site for more in the area. It is now in a store called, "The Purple Cow." This is a gift shop with many interesting and sometimes odd selections. The location is at 205 Main Street, near Columbia Street. The machine looks the same as in the past. We bought an item that was a sculpture based on a word.
