The OKC Bombing disaster occurred in 1995 when Timothy McVeigh exploded approx. 4,000 pounds of fertilizer and fuel at the Alfred Murrah Federal Building. 168 people lost their lives that day and many more were injured or maimed. The blast was so powerful that it could be felt by many Oklahomans who live several miles from the site. There is an OKC Bombing Memorial located in OKC by the site, and it is an absolutely beautiful place to visit. The museum does a great job of telling the history of the event and tugging at your emotions as you learn about what the survivors went through. It's a must-see place when you come to OKC.
