While looking for a benchmark called the Clio Airway Beacon Light, I could not find anything at the site but an empty field. Noting a home a few hundred yards away and seeing people in the yard, I stopped to inquire about the old beacon I could not find. The man of the house informed me that the actual beacon was dismantled in the 40's and that prior to that his grandfather was the lightkeeper. Per this gentleman, the light served as part of a night time guidance system used by pilots as a landmark. As advances were being made in guidance of aircraft, in part to WWII, the beacon was no longer needed. Eventually, it was taken down. While in the man's yard talking, I noticed the farm bell. I asked if had been here long to which he replied that it was originally his grandather's, the lightkeeper. I asked to take a picture of it, you know so as to not have a totally busted trip for a benchmark picture. Okay, I could not resist the urge to add another bell to my list, alright. The rest is history.
