I visited this aviary hours before the bitter cold front hit OKC. The birds were nice and comfortable inside the aviary. There is plenty of foliage as well as a small waterfall so it's a very peaceful, calming environment to be in. The birds did not seem afraid of me at all, but did fly away if I got too close. There were several nesting areas in the trees and tons of branches and leaves for them to hide in if they wanted to. There are a couple of benches for you to use if you'd like to sit and just watch the birds.
The Zoo is open daily except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. There are numerous educational classes offered as well as sleepovers. There are several annual events offered by the zoo, including the Ostrich Egg Breakfast and Bowling for Rhinos. There is an annual photo contest featuring only animals at the OKC zoo. Outdoor sculptures abound here and you will find them along the walkways among the exhibits.
