Long Island in Kingsport, which is a sacred ceremonial ground for the Cherokee, was relinquished by treaty on Jan 7th, 1806. It was also a meeting ground for the region. In July 1976, a small portion of the northwest end of the island was returned to the Cherokee people. This monument was placed in this section, but during the past 20 years I have not seen any further activity.
