Starting from the Barnes and Noble Bookstore in the Merchant Square section of Williamsburg, the Original Ghosts of Williamsburg Candlelight Tour takes people on walks to hear stories about former residents of Williamsburg, but of the specter kind. Stories include straight history (for background), eyewitness accounts of paranormal activity at each location, a murder, and other related stories.

The tour started about 8:00 pm (November 2009). The guide carried a lantern and first took us to the eastern end of William and Mary College, in the midst of the three oldest buildings on campus. Stories were told of two of the buildings, Brafferton Hall, and the President's House. The group then walked into Colonial Williamsburg, where we stopped at several places to either hear of the paranormal activity observed at these places or odd or intriguing stories that happened there. One was about a murder by poisoning. Another was about a tree in nearby Jamestown that had rearranged graves in a cemetery.

All-in-all it was a good way to hear of stories that are not normally told at Colonial Williamsburg. Most of the stories were based on accounts recorded in the books written by L. B. Taylor, now numbering at least 14 volumes. These books can be purchased in the Barnes and Noble Bookstore as well as the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center.

The fare was $12 in November, 2009. Groups of 25 or more can get a discount of $1 per person. See the web site for details.
