The Jackson Johnson Mansion at 25 Portland Place was built in 1892. The original owners of the mansion were William and Eliza McMillian. Mr. McMillian was the president of a railroad car manufacturing company, Missouri Car & Foundry Company. The McMillians lived in the home for only a few years due to the death of Mr. McMillian in 1901. In 1915 mansion was purchased by Jackson Johnson, president and then chairman of board for International Shoes, the largest shoe manufacturing company in the world at that time. The Johnson family lived in the mansion for more than 40 years and the mansion is still known as the Jackson Johnson Mansion.
The Italian Renaissance style mansion was designed by the architectural firm of Eames and Young.
