Sir Edward St. George was a remarkable man, born in Malta, educated in England and finding his final resting place in his beloved Bahamas. You can read more abut him
here.
'... it was not unusual for him to be found, in suit and tie, pottering around some rough neighbourhood on a whim after dark, introducing himself with the words: "Good evening, man, I’m Edward St George Chairman of the Port Authority. Is there anything we can do for you?"'
His monument is a wonderful place to watch a sunset, and nearby you can explore the nature trails in St George Memorial Park and learn about the native plants and their uses, or go down to Taino Beach and eat some roast conch or drink a gully wash served by one of the local Bahamians who Sir Edward loved so much.
The structure consists of a burial mound in a fenced enclosure, topped by a semicircular group of pillars supporting a marble inscription "MAN OF VISION". There are benches to sit on.
