A wood sign for southbound AT hikers points to a blue-blazed side trail up through a rhododendron thicket. A large step down at the Ag Dept benchmark continues to the cliffs which have a great expansive view down into Greeneville, TN.
At the coordinates is "The Blackstack's Secret" geocache (DT4.5/5.0) which is a unique combination for Well Rounded Cachers. Access around 8 miles from TN70 on a paved, then gravel road up to the top of Viking Mountain (suitable even for an Accord). Parking around N 36 01.788, W 82 42.576. A shortcut down the hill reaches the AT, or find the blue blaze access point down the paved road (suitable only for high clearance).
The overlook provides great seating for lunch. In August to early September, the huckleberries are ready for picking.
