The John Geisel family was attacked on Feb. 22, 1856, during the Rogue River Indian War. The father and the three sons (ages 9, 7, & 5) were all killed and burned in the home. The mother and two daughters were taken and later released. John and his three sons were buried in a common grave near the home. Fourty three years later the mother (Christina) was murdered and buried here also.
