"The Irish character...
sets across the face of this
land a rainbow of light and hope..."
Abp. John J. Glennon
March 17, 1909

The cross is 16.5 feet tall and was constructed of granite by the High Cross Monument Company. The cross is dedicated to Irish that immigrated to St Louis and played a substantial role in building the city.

"During the first 50 American years in St. Louis, the city gave a warmer welcome to Irish Catholics than any place in the world, including Dublin itself. The memory of these men and women, clergy and laity, who came to St. Louis to build a home for themselves, their neighbors, and their descendants deserves a memorial to keep alive the memory of their achievements."
Fr. Barnaby Faherty, S.J., St. Louis' premiere historian
