In CENTER SQUARE, 7th and Hamilton Sts., site of Allentown's first taverns and trading posts, rises the SOLDIERS' AND SAILORS' MONUMENT, a 100-foot shaft of Barre granite, with copper and bronze ornament, topped with a figure of the Goddess of Liberty; life-size figures of civil War veterans surround the base.

The monument is still in good shape and is now surrounded by the traffic flow of eastbound Hamilton Street and Southbound 7th Street. It is on an island with ornate embellishments.
