The routes split here with route 11 continuing along St John's Street and towards the River Cam whilst route 51 continues along Castle Street and the River Cam.

Cambridge is a very big cycling orientated city.

All intercity cycle routes as described on the Sustrans website: 'National Route 11 of the National Cycle Network will connect Harlow in Essex with King's Lynn in Norfolk via Cambridge and Ely. Harlow to Stanstead Mountfitchet and Waterbeach to Wicken are still under development along with a link to Saffron Walden. National Route 51 of the National Cycle Network will connect Colchester and Oxford via Harwich, Felixstowe, Ipswich, Bury St. Edmunds, Cambridge, Bedford and Milton Keynes. Between Huntingdon and Sandy the route follows National Route 12. The route is called "The University Way" between Oxford and Cambridge.'
