The castle of Crèvecoeur, which dominates the city entrance of Dinant, goes back to 1320. The fortress was deeply modified at 14th and the 15th century. The legend of the 3 Ladies of Crèvecoeur tells that, at the time of the conquest of Henri II (King of France) (1554), three officers wives or fiancées, took the command of the tower, encouraging the defenders. Preferring death above capture, when resistance ceased, the three heroines threw themselves arm in arm from the top of the tower.
