Located in a parking lot oasis, this memorial to the Book family is placed among a winding sidewalk, manicured landscaping and benches for visitors to relax while shopping or grabbing a quick bite to eat.

Since this portion of the Chicagoland area has coverted from a rural, agricultural area to a busy, suburban community, a plaque to these pioneers was appropriate.

The memorial reads:

This land was owned and farmed by John Peter and Anna Sophia (Burkhark) Book and their descendants. In 1847, at age 16 John Peter immigrated with his parents and siblings to Naperville from Germany. He purchased this property around 1856. It remained in the Book family until 2007.

We salute their pioneering spirit and determination to live a free and productive life.
