While this 250-metre long boardwalk runs parallel to the water's edge of Waituna Lagoon at no point can you see the water until the very end due to the thick manuka bush it goes through.

An interesting design to ensure wheelchair accessibility yet not impact the environment too much it has three wheelchair bays so that disable persons are able to pass each other.

The Waituna Lagoon is a Department of Conservation that is one of the Ramsar Convention sites around the world that are recogised as being significant wetlands to preserve. According to ramsar.org:

The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, called the Ramsar Convention, is an intergovernmental treaty that provides the framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources.

The Waituna Lagoon is a part of the much larger Awarua Wetlands which covers some 18,900 hectares | 46,702 acres.

Approximate boardwalk length (feet): 820 feet
