The Courthouse Square Historic District is predominately a commercial district but is centered by the courthouse. The commercial buildings are in assorted styles though many showing Victorian influence in their design. Most of the buildings were built in the 1880s through the early 1900's and most are well maintained and continue to serve as commercial buildings.
The Appanoose County Courthouse is a contributing building in the district but is also separately listed on the National Register.
