This is a Bronze statue, on a stone plinth on a concrete base, of James Edward Fitzgerald, the first Superintendent of Canterbury. A terrazo plaque is inscripted on the front of the plinth.
Inscription reads: 'James Edward Fitzgerald First superintendent of Canterbury 1853–1857.'
In a brief ceremony the statue was unveiled on 3 February, 1939.
