Located 1111 Veterans Square in downtown Terre Haute.
Is named for Major General Henry W. Lawton, who saw action in the US Army in the Civil War, Spanish-American War,and the Philippines. His guerilla and night fighting techniques earned him the nickname, ‘General of the Night’. Lawton’s remains are buried at Arlington National Cemetery. A statue of him stands in Indianapolis, where Teddy Roosevelt was the principal speaker at the dedication. Even the people of the Philippines had developed a respect for Lawton as he has been pictured on Philippine currency with a statue near the post office in Manila. reference
