If any name evokes the spirit of the people who fought for Vermont's independence, it is Ethan Allen.
In Burlington's Greenmount Cemetery, an eight-foor statue of Allen stands atop a 42-foot Tuscan pillar on a square base. It behooves us to bear in mind that any image of Allen is artist's concept; with no documented images, it is not known what he actually looked like.
A vault below the monument is believed to be Allen's grave.
